News: Akai RPM3 Monitors now in stores

leave a comment »

This hit my inbox today. The Akai RPM3 monitors have now hit the stores. They are monitors combined with a usb audio interface. Neato. I like the concept, although not too sure whether it’s practical or not, I suppose I’d have to try them out for myself.

Here are their specs from the Akai website:

– USB monitors and audio interface
– 2×2 USB audio interface allows simultaneous recording and monitoring of computer audio
– Magnetically shielded to prevent interference when placed close to computer monitors
– Record and monitor audio using either 1/8″, 1/4″ TRS or RCA stereo inputs
– Lightweight, portable size perfect for desks, project studios and mobile-recording rigs
– Volume control, power-switch and 1/8″ headphone jack located on front panel for quick access

It seems like it would be very convenient, but I’m just not sure how having both your speakers and interface in one would affect the sound quality. Any thoughts?
